FREE ENES!
The unifying theme at the University of Kentucky Campout continues to be the Free Enes! movement, with signs and banners hanging throughout. The actual question of Enes’s eligibility is still however very much up in the air at this point. There continue to be delays in the process and those around UK have said to me that they are now unsure when the process will end. Dick Vitale sent out a tweet that suggested the NCAA should make its decision very soon and that there is no reason to waste anymore time, a thought that most around the process would agree with. As for the practical implications, Enes Kanter has been given a practice waiver, but it runs out when the actual practice begins in two weeks. The NCAA would have to extend that for it to continue and it is expected to be renewed if necessary. But for now, the waiting game continues and there is no obvious end in sight. Here are my feelings on the Enes Kanter matter:
1. He played Pro for Turkey since the age of 14. (Does not have a signed contract, which keeps him from being considered a professional player)
2. He accepted living expenses - (The Turkish General Manager stated that it was around $100,000, but can't show proof)
3. He is a BEAST!
Nintendo 3DS Coming Soon!
Nintendo is expecting to sell four million 3DS systems and 15 million 3DS software titles during its first month on sale.
The 3DS will launch in Japan on February 26, 2011 for 25,000 yen ($300) and will launch in North America and Europe a month later, though pricing details for those territories were not announced.
The Kyoto-based company issued a revised financial forecast this morning for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011.
Despite impressive 3DS sales estimates, Nintendo cut its profit projection for the remaining fiscal year nearly in half from $2.4 billion to $1.1 billion.
"The earnings forecast has been modified to reflect the trend of stronger-than-expected yen appreciation, current sales performance, the sales outlook for the holiday season and the decided release conditions for the Nintendo 3DS," the company said.
Kinect Outselling Ipad?
Micrsoft's Kudo Tsunoda believes that Kinect will 'blow away' sales of the iPad when it launches later this year.
"The preorders have been really strong. As far as what we're looking at for Holiday, this is going to be stuff that'll blow away any of the sales you've seen with iPad," Tsunoda told Gamasutra. "The Xbox 360 is already selling better than the Wii and Sony right now. Kinect's really just going to boost that to a whole new level."
Apple's iPad has enjoyed phenomenal success since its launch on April 2, shifting some three million units in just 80 days.
