My first thought was the world is going to be a little quieter now. How could we possibly replace that voice, or the man? Don and I were more than friends, we were brothers. Our first connection was music, bringing us together at WECL, at concerts , and in the living room singing. Ky was barren ,radio wise, when Don started at WECL. If you wanted to listen to rock n roll, the only way to get the good stuff was to tune in at night to WSM in Chicago. Don changed all that.I remember turning the dial one day and all of a sudden there was this huge voice and all this music booming out of the dashboard radio, and I was hooked for life.I remember Sycamore grade school, and Don, Darrell Mullins, and Martin Slone rocking it out as "The Steppin' Stones". Don was one of the first people that encouraged my writing ,and because of him and a few others like him, I have made a life in music. It was Don that called me to congradulate me when I got the first song recorded, and again when that song reached the top ten. When I first went out on the road with Gary Stewart, it was Don that pushed me to go. When I finally made the move to Nashville, once again it was Don who gave me that little extra push. He wanted the best for me, and for everyone that he associated with.Down through the years, Don interviewed me four times for radio and tv.You had to know your stuff to sit down with the DR., because believe me, he knew. He was a walking encyclopedia of artists, songs, concerts, and music in general. These interviews, and a lot more videos of Dr Don, are in my personal library, and in my heart as some of the best events of my life. I had just spoken to Don a few days before this tragic event, and he was so up on the world. He loved his wife and family, had plans to travel, and was at a place in his life where he was finally getting the recognition he deserved. He loved coming to the studio when we were recording, he loved hanging out with musicians,he was himself a musician. On a sad personal note, Don was to be my best man at my upcoming wedding. He dearly loved Melissa, my bride to be, and she dearly loved him also.Don was the best man at a lot of things, and looking back down the years, I realize he had always been there for me, pushing me to be better than what I was, believing when noone else did. I loved Dr Don like a brother, and I will miss him all of my days. The world is indeed a much quieter place. Goodbye,my friend. Sonny Tackett
